Environment Health & Safety Coordinator (1)
Mkwawa Leaf Tobacco Limited (MLTL) invites applications from suitable and qualified candidates to fill the following position. Responsible for identifying and developing processes to assist with the management of EHS risk, implementing an integrated EHS system with supporting programs to ensure that site leadership can deliver outcomes and continuously upgrade to meet/exceed MLTL business goals, legislative standards and industries good practices and compliance conformance programs
Role & Responsibilities
1. REGULATORY, AND MLT EHS REQUIREMENTS
1.1. Ensure that an EHS legal register for the country’s operations is developed and is up to date
1.2. Responsible to ensure all MLTL EHS policies, standards, practices and procedures are implemented and known to all employees through working closely with line management.
1.3. Responsible for ensuring that effective EHS management systems are implemented and maintained at MLTL Operations.
1.4. In conjunction with the existing Management Team, responsible for the maintenance and updating of any customer driven sustainable tobacco program/s.
2. STRATEGIC
2.1 Disseminates and manages operational and organizational imperatives.
2.2 Establishes internal and external networks to search for and exchange relevant information and knowledge.
2.3 Manages financial information (costs, budgets) and performance data to enhance business results and profitability.
2.4 Monitors updates to regulatory, legislative and industry practices and interprets the implications for the business.
3. PEOPLE AND SCHEDULING SKILLS
3.1 Fosters the professional development of EHS team by encourage and support contributions and facilitates the team’s effective performance
3.2 Actively supports creative ideas that can improve ways of doing things.
3.3 Rewards and praises creativity and originality of thinking within the organization and encourages innovation and creativity in others.
3.4 Prepare the annual business plan that considers Life of Asset requirements.
4. ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR MLTL OPERATIONS.
4.1 Lead the implementation of effective EHS practices through planning, awareness building and competency development of on-site personnel.
4.2 Provide clear expectations on performance in EHS through setting objectives and KPIs in EHS for all our employees and contractors in liaison with regional office.
4.3 Ensure that EHS incidents including non-compliances are reported within the required timeframes and appropriately investigated in line with MLTL Standards and regulatory requirements.
4.4 Lead the development of an EHS risk register for the site and associated activities, including the definition of effective controls for significant EHS risks.
4.5 Ensure that EHS management plans are developed and implemented to address key aspects/risks and opportunities and ensure these are included in department plans and budgets.
4.6 Ensure that EHS monitoring databases are maintained, including the quality and integrity of information and data.
5. CUSTOMER DRIVEN EHS RELATED PROGRAMS
5.1 Ensures a gap analysis is drawn between customer demanded roadmaps and actuals on the ground with regards to EHS and determines action plan.
5.2 Ensure risk assessments based on the annually evolving customer driven programs with regards to EHS are conducted and updated annually
5.3 Ensures annual customer driven programs action plans are formulated in liaison with Factory, Administration, Logistics and Agronomy management to address shortfalls.
5.4 Ensured action plans are sent to customers or uploaded on customer database within the customer fixed timeframes.
6. SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT, EFFLUENT MONITORING, CLIMATE CHANGE, AND SUSTAINABILITY DATA
6.1 Liaises with management in identifying possible resource conservation measures aimed at improving company profitability.
6.2 Advises management on changes to Climate Change dynamics and regulatory requirements to ensure the Company is well positioned to adjust and achieve compliance with changing rules and regulations.
6.3 Ensures that at all Company facilities effluent discharged into the environment is compliant with legal and regulatory requirements and where this is not met takes or recommends corrective action through the relevant HODs to rectify the problem.

Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualifications in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline highly regarded.
- Lead Auditor ISO 14001:2015 and/or ISO45001:2018 and / or NOSA or any other program
- + 5 years’ experience of management of an EHS function for a heavy industry or manufacturing or agro-processing operation in a developing country.
- Experience in leading and developing multi-lingual/multi-ethnic teams.
- Experience in implementing an EHS framework to like; NOSA, ISO14001 and 18001 standards.

- Salary offered to this position is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience
Reporting
- The job incumbent will be based in MOROGORO and will directly be reporting to ENGINEERING MANAGER.
